A Taste of the Islands, A Celebration of Love
Welcome! My name is Raquel Amargos-Andujar, and I invite you to share in something very special to me: *Bocados y Sabores del Caribe — Caribbean Bites & Sips!*
This book is more than a collection of recipes. It is a piece of my heart, a tribute to my family, and a celebration of the Caribbean culture that has shaped so much of who I am. For five years, I carried this dream with me, gathering recipes, memories, and ideas with the hope of sharing the warmth of my family's kitchen with the world.
Some of my sweetest memories began in the kitchen beside my grandmother, surrounded by the aromas of freshly baked bread, coconut, warm spices, and tropical flavors. I remember the music playing in the background, the familiar rhythms of merengue, and the feeling that food was never just about eating. It was about family, laughter, tradition, and love. My mother's special recipes also hold a treasured place in my heart, reminding me how a simple taste can carry a lifetime of memories.
I created these books because I believe that, even though we may come from different islands, countries, and backgrounds, we share more than we sometimes realize. We gather around tables. We cook for the people we love. We celebrate with food, tell stories through our traditions, and let music bring life into our homes. Whether your favorite rhythm is merengue, salsa, bachata, reggae, kompa, or another beautiful sound, music has a way of bringing us together.
Our recipes may be different, our languages may vary, and our celebrations may have their own traditions, but the feelings behind them are often the same. We want our families to feel welcome. We want our children and grandchildren to remember where they came from. We want to share something meaningful with the people who sit at our tables.
That is the spirit behind *Bocados y Sabores del Caribe* and my special holiday collection, *Navidad en el Caribe*. Through island-inspired foods, desserts, breads, coffees, tropical drinks, and festive favorites, I hope to celebrate the traditions that make each culture unique while honoring the human connections we have in common.
My hope is that these books inspire you to try a new recipe, revisit a cherished family favorite, turn up your music, invite someone to the table, and create memories of your own.
Above all, I want you to remember that **you deserve to be loved, you deserve to be seen, and you have a place at the table—no matter where you come from or who you are.**
